Project 2

Questions:
1. I thought this was a “community” box, not necessarily feeding the homeless but one of their personas is a homeless man? Are we gearing this toward the homeless population in addition or is it more that they’re not excluding them from having access?
2. I’m not seeing how the drawer design will be able to regulate and differentiate humidity- not necessarily relevant to our design process
3. Are we designing this completely? Like inside and out, pictorials, logos, info-graphic directions, the whole 9 yards?
4. Are all of the drawers going to have some sort of assistance to them, sliding rails, Or anything? or will all but the top be manual? If one of their personas is an old woman without much strength, some sort of sliding drawers would be beneficial for all 4.
5. With the neighborhood that we’re trying to incorporate this into, shouldn’t at least some of the consideration be toward people of color? Or Spanish speaking users?

Observations:
The exploded view with the inventory on the same page, to use as reference is really useful.
Finding a solution for wheelchair bound people, and people who can’t necessarily lift much weight was something that I was thinking about in relation to this project and I think the solution they came up with will work well.
I love the ideas of the cubbies on the side being used for supplies for the box so someone could volunteer to clean it, they could leave recipes, people could leave notes- The likelihood of much of it being stolen is fairly high.

Project 12

Questions:
1. Just on the first two pages, it has conflicting names: veggie box and green box. From what we’ve heard, green box is out.
2. It says “no maintenance” but it’s quite likely that something will need to be fixed or at least checked in on at some point, right? I get that it’s all high tech but even like a biweekly dump of old produce would might be necessary.
3. It seems like they haven’t entirely figured out what is it that they’re doing and/ or what they’re making it out of.
4. Who is responsible for paying for the energy used by the box when it is plugged in?

Observations:
I like the option for having it be able to run on solar power or be plugged in where available.
It’s nice that they considered having additional signage that would point people toward the box. The consideration for the surrounding environment and buildings is evident and helpful.
They aren’t sure who their demographic is, but if it’s a community box then it should be available to everyone. We should try to get an update on if there is going to be some sort of lock or anti-vandalism things.
We don’t have a finished model of this design but all of the material leading up to it was thorough and extremely helpful. The fact that they included the majority of the pricing was great for budgetary purposes.
